Handwriting

Hey all,

Bit of a short post today I’m afraid. I’m busy at the moment copying down days of handwritten pages (as you’ll soon read about) into Word. Nothing too exciting in the life of me right now, just the standard gym, writing, eating. I suppose that on occasion I go for a walk down by the water with Charlotte, but that’s about it—quite the party animal I am.

Anywho, it’s been an odd few days of writing for me. They’ve been productive… I think; at the very least I’ve not been stuck on anything. For whatever reason, it struck me to start writing by hand in my journal just the other day. I’m normally wildly opposed to writing anything by hand as it takes forever and my handwriting is just south of abysmal. I suppose it’s legible if I slow down, but that’s not at all what I want to do when I have a good scene that I’m putting to paper. Also, I’ve never been that big of a fan of typing up something that’s written on a piece of paper—I can never find that good of a spot to put the notebook. It either ends up right on my keyboard or somewhere on my lap. As you can see, handwriting is clearly a chaotic process for me (most of the time).

As I was saying, it struck my fancy just the other day to write a scene by hand. I’d been having issues with the tone of the thing, and felt that perhaps a different setting would make the writing come out a bit easier. For whatever reason, it went so well that I’ve just kept on going with the book by hand. I’m not sure how long it will last, or why exactly the journal and pen format is working for me, but I suppose I’ll keep going for the time being. It’s most definitely not as productive as typing, and changing bits that I don’t like takes a bit more time, but it’s better that being gridlocked by something that you can’t figure out. Also, I’m not too sure exactly how many words I’ve written, which is something you become accustomed to with a word count button at the top of your screen. I can sort of guesstimate by counting words and lines… but it’s just not the same.

Christmas is coming up next week. I’m not quite sure how I’m going to do blog posts over the holidays since I will be away for a few days. I could either sneak off now and again to write in the corner on my tiny wee netbook, or I could figure out how to do a timed post on my blog. I think there’s such a thing as a timed post, where you preload it and it just goes off on its own. I might be making that up entirely, but it seems like a thing that should exist if it doesn’t already. Like I said, we’ll see how it goes and I’ll probably end up talking about it next time.
