I don’t have all that much to talk about today. I’ve mostly just been writing and hanging out. I sort of needed a weekend like this; I keep on doing things, which always seem like a good idea before I have to do them, but when the time comes I just want to take a nap. Anyways, the point is that I don’t have anything all that exciting to talk about from the life of me. Also, my writing has been pretty good the last bit of time. Nothing too terrible nor too spectacular has happened. Life has just been pretty alright, all things considered.
I suppose that I could talk about how I’ve come up with an alternate ending to the second Dreamstate book and how I’m not too sure what to do with it. You see, a number of things happen at the end of the book that spiral off into the next in the series. I won’t mention any of them right now as it would be a super spoiler to an unfinished book, but that is how the story ends (with lots of events). Anyways, I’ve come up with a new ending to one of these events that rather significantly changes the way that the following books would move along. I’m fairly sure that I like it… actually, I like it a lot—I’m just not sure how it will mess with the next book.
There are some fairly significant things that are slated to happen in book three, and if I make this change, then I end up losing a huge number of places that I can comfortably set the story in. They still exist, and would be accessible (in a way) but I’d have to come up with something out of left field to get them into the story again. I suppose that I could look at it as a challenge, and given enough time I could do something pretty cool with the new way that the world would work… but I have so many carefully laid plans!
I guess I have more time before I have to really finalize anything, and I can ask my test readers how they’d feel about option A or option B. The change has almost zero effect on the current book save for a few lines and possibly pages near the tail end of the story, but it really does maul what I have planned further down the road. I think asking people which they prefer is the best option… otherwise I’ll just end up thinking myself to death (and no one needs that).
