Happy Easter(ish)!

Hey all,

Hope everyone had a good Easter weekend—or, at the very least, I hope you had a relaxing long weekend. Charlotte and I went out of town (over to Victoria, BC) and got to meet up with my sister. I hadn’t seen her for a while and we hung out and looked at old buildings and whatnot; it was a fun time.

Needless to say, I didn’t drag my desktop with me on the ferry boat. I did, however, print out a bit of Dreamstate and start editing it with a red pen. I figured that since I had already done the big scene editing chop-out-bits in Word, I could take just the first fifteen pages or so with me. It’s not the most exciting task in the world, but finding typos and shifting about awkward sentences is pretty crucial to having a complete book (a complete book that people might want to read). Right now I find that a lot of what I’m doing is just removing unnecessary pieces and tightening up what’s there. I can be longwinded in my descriptions if I don’t stop myself, and it seems that I didn’t stop myself at all when I wrote Dreamstate II; I think that’s part of the reason that the book is so much more lengthy than I’d wanted. Most of my time was really spent just trying to figure out how to say things that I’d already said, but in half as many words.

I haven’t had a chance to touch my horror book; I was out of town and all that jazz. Tomorrow I’ll be back into that a bit more, especially since I spent my weekend focused on Dreamstate stuff. I’m keeping the horror book (title still not fully decided upon) much, much shorter. If I don’t slow down I’m going to start getting a bit of an editing backlog, which, ya’ know, there are worse things in the world to have—but I’d prefer if I could finish my edits of one before I have another queued up.

Oh, fun stuff, I accidentally redid the cover art for Dreamstate II while scribbling in my journal the other day. I had designed something that was supposed to be the insignia of the second Brother, but it seemed a little lackluster. My scribbling, however, gave me something that I super like, and with a bit of fancying up into better cover art (less banner insignia-ish) I should have something to show you folks before long. I do hope you’ll like it as much as I do.

-Trevor
